Today NA independent MP Edmond Marukyan at the NA session discussing the Ethics Committee expressed a number of concerns.
According to him, either the PAP should not participate in the meetings of the Ethics Committee, or in that case the independent MPs should not be involved too. But Marukyan stressed that in his opinion “independent ones should also participate in the meeting of the Ethics Committee.”
The deputy noted that 2 independent deputies participated in the convening of the first session of the current parliament, but in the formation of the Ethics Committee was the only one, in which the independent deputies did not participate. According to him, this is the reason why the Ethics Committee does not have jurisdiction to consider the issue of independent MPs, otherwise may argue it in the court as illegitimate.
“A new government will be formed after the elections, and a new coalition may be formed, then the balance will change again. Shall we recur to this question again?” asked the MP.
