Deputy of the French Senate Valerie Buaye whose name is well known to Armenians as the initiator of the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide, offered another similar initiative in the National Assembly.
On December 13, Buaye said at a press release that she presented 3 notes to the parliament for the protection of the French law regarding the recognition of Armenian Genocide on January 29, 2001.
The first is the first version of the punishment bill, the way it was on October 18, 2011. The second is the bill that provides punishment for denying the genocide. It was adopted on January 23, 2012 and was rejected by the Constitutional Council on February 28, 2012.
The third application is designed with lawyer Philip Grigoryan. This initiative has two aims. First of all it supposes full coverage of the Constitutional Council’s decision to reject, then a requirement to the inquiry committee to explore the French law regarding the recognition of Armenian Genocide on January 29, 2001, considering the reasons for the Council’s negative attitude.
