President of the Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan met on November 28 with the Polish, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian experts, who aimed to have a preliminary study of security sector reform project in the South Caucasus republics.
The leading organization dealing with the draft is the center of European and North Atlantic Affairs in Slovakia, the partners of which are the Institutes of International Relations of the Czech Republic and Poland, University of the Hungarian national public service, and the “Spectrum” strategic analytical center in Armenia.
As the guests presented, the purpose of their visit is the discussion of the needs and security in Armenia, the record of the current situation and the question of how to apply the experience of Central and Eastern Europe in Amrnia.
Koryun Nahapetyan, stressing the experts’ mission, said that the three regional countries have common security objectives.
He noted that one of the most important functions of the Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs parliamentary oversight of security agencies, which is implemented by legislative reforms, budgetary control, the executive body checks and discussions in various formats. There can be effective cooperation in this area with the European experts, if they make specific proposals and present their experience.
