The most interesting question of the forthcoming local government elections remains the election of the mayor of Gyumri, particularly the question –whether Vardan Ghukasyan the incumbent mayor will be nominated. The Republican Party does not support him, but which until now announces an intention to run.
As we know, the Republican Party not officially, but obviously supports the PAP candidate Samel Balasanyan, who has already been nominated for the post of the mayor. PAP denies the fact of an agreement with the RPA or with Serzh Sargsyan,, but, of course, even a child can see, that the Republican Party has given consent, otherwise PAP would run Martun Grigoryan’s candidacy. By the way, police issued a quite remarkable statement declaring that the actions of the coordinating council of the local elections were to be the most effective public control over law and order. But here the situation becomes very interesting particularly about Gyumri, and in the act of the police one can see a warning for Gyumri Mayor Vartan Ghukasian. There is no doubt that he would run at a very tense situation.
If Ghukasyan is nominated, there is an intention to fight, otherwise there is no sense to run against the popular candidate and then silently lose and bear the defeat.
This step of the police is a transparent remark just for Vardan Ghukasyan, in the sense that the police will not allow any specific manifestations. Moreover, the question, of course, is not about his nomination, because even if he doesn’t run, he might use all possible means to hold the power to create problems for Balasanyan’s election.
