In his analysis in the First News and Analyses, Aram Amatuni mentions, that today the overwhelming part of the Armenian National Congress does not hesitate to deliver itself to PAP trying to persuade the latter they cannot survive without ANC backing them. PAP though does not yield. PAP keeps on leading its silent strategy neither encouraging ANC members nor burning the bridges completely.
As Amatuni goes on, ANC statement that PAP can achieve success only when it joins ANC speaks either of the loss of time and space senses or overestimation of their powers. Amatuni thinks PAP is the most powerful opposition power today in Armenia and ANC is not the one to save PAP from collapse. Amatuni argues that PAP-ANC game desolates the political arena in the country by paralyzing any reasonable civic thinking which is quite favorable for Serzh Sargsyan, so favorable as his own Republican party could imagine. The incumbent president knows very well that PAP-ANC cooperation in Armenia’s political life can have an H-bomb effect not leaving any chance of having a new political environment in the future.
Amatuni notices, if previously the Republican party was a passive respondent to PAP criticism, now it has become the initiator of criticizing PAP for its political views. This means, Amatuni states, president’s initial attack can make PAP think of ANC differently.
As the expert explains, if this political myth of PAP-ANC probable cooperation blurs off, it may make Sargsyan think of other new myths which will cause many civic and social problems. All these probable developments must be prevented by the “beautiful story about PAP-ANC tandem”, Amatuni concludes.
