The interlocutor of “First Armenian News and Analyses” was SDHP member Gurgen Yeghiazaryan, who answered several questions on the common issues concerning the Congress and political field in general.
Mr. Yeghiazaryan, commenting on the statement that there are disagreements on the presidential election in Congress, said that there are no disagreements, as there were no discussions related to the presidential election. “We have one candidate and we wait for the candidate’s statement: Whether he will run or not.” said Yeghizaryan, specifying that Ter-Petrosyan is that candidate.
To the question what if the ANC decides to support the PAP’s candidate, as there is cooperation with that party, he said “I do not think such thing can happen. If there is a politician like Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the PAP we will support him.”
And do you think that before the elections, opposition parties can unite around a common candidate? “I hope they will unite. Of course, the authorities will do everything to split us. People live in poor conditions, it is time to change them. It is a shame. If they’re re-elected after the elections, there will not remain any people in Armenia. I hope that in a couple of months our friends who are not with Congress will join the ANC.”
Gurgen Yeghiazaryan discussing the issue of split of “Free Democrats” and “Heritage” Party said that it was forced union, which was directed from outside and implemented by the internal power. “Of course, I exclude my friends Ararat Zurabyan and Kokobelyanin. Both joining and splitting was the games of “Heritage” party. If there were external and internal forces, Alaverdi was in hands of “Heritage”, not “Free Democrats”.
He gave a negative answer to the question whether he thinks that lately authorities are trying to become law-abiding. “If they were the people who were concerned about the abuses taking place in the country, they would not let Vazgen Khachikyan and other representative of the RPA to come to power.”
Expressing his viewpoint on the disagreements of the PAP with the RPA Mr.Yeghiazaryan stated that these are in a shameful condition. “Everyone is terrified that the PAP will join ANC. But everything should be done not to let that join take place.”
