Armenia leads new policy to increase its role in the diamond industry. According to the official website of the Israeli diamond industry, the government of Armenia made easier the process of imports of polished diamond and exports of rough diamond for its citizens.
The new rules require companies to submit only four documents: requisition, a copy of the contract, and the Kimberley Process certificate issued and report issued by an authorized agency.
In the same period of2010 Armenia imported from Russia about 20.2 million dollars worth rough diamonds and exported about 19.5 million dollars worth polished diamonds. In 2011 Armenia significantly increased imports from Russia, bringing it up to 30 million dollars.
