“First Armenian News and Analysis” had an interview with MP from Bidzina Ivanishvili’s “Georgian Dream” party, Ruslan Poghosyan.
On October 1st Georgian people elected new authority, namely “Georgian Dream”. The MP was asked what will be changed by Bidzina Ivanishvili’s rule when Sahakashvili was famous as the most democratic Georgian president.
Ruslan Poghosyan answered that first of all Georgia needs supremacy of law. “The judges are controlled by authorities, the advocate institute had formal signification. The second need is the economic development. There is great unemployment in Georgia. There must be economic changes, because the budget increases due to people’s money, terrorizing businessmen and confiscations but not due to the developed economy.
“Legal reforms, improvement of judicial system will become visible soon, whereas economic changes will be clear a bit later. Though Saahakashvili’s Georgia has gained an image of democratic country, there are still many convicts in Georgia and many people were killed by law enforcement.”
Georgian MP was asked whether the changes after Gldan scandal were not enough. “It was not a single case. It is a system. This is the policy of the structure. Firing several ministers is not enough for such crimes.”
Speaking on Georgia’s further foreign policy, especially on relations with Russia, Ruslan Poghosyan said. “The party plans to improve relations with all the neighbors including Russia. In parallel deepening of relations with Europe must be exercised.”
Whether Georgia will need Armenia’s help in Georgia-Russia relations, the MP commented. “Nothing is excluded”
“First Armenian News and Analysis” asked Ruslan Poghosyan what is the aim of the planned visit of Bidzina Ivanishvili to Azerbaijan. He said that Armenia-Georgian relations will be not hurt, anyhow the aim is not certain yet.
The member of “Georgian Dream” party was asked whether Ivanishvili’s rule will take steps towards the complaints of ethnic minorities, namely that of Armenians. He replied: “Bidzina Ivanishvili had said many times that all the nations living in Georgia have the same rights as the Georgians. In one of his latest announcements he said that Armenians are few in the government and this situation must be changed.”
