“Georgia can return to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).” said Alexander Lukashenko on October 4.
“I think that next year’s summit of the CIS is likely to meet in Minsk. Therefore, I will initiate it by all means, and this will be my function (if the summit will be hosted in Minsk), to return Georgia to the CIS”, – said Lukashenko.
“It’s a small load to Georgian politicians. If Saakashvili’s party won, I believe that he would have been a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the coming year. And Belarus would work in this direction. We must not lose Georgia,” – said the head of Belarus.
Recall that on August 18, 2009, Georgia officially withdrew from the CIS. On August 12, 2008 Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili declared an exit from the CIS republics, and on 14 August 2008 the Georgian Parliament unanimously decided that the country leaves the organization.
