Israeli Minister of Information and Diaspora July Ioel Edelstein said that there are many common historical episodes between Armenians and Jews.
This morning Edelstein, who is in Armenia at the 20th anniversary of Jewish Community of Armenia, visited the Genocide and the Jewish Holocaust monuments.
In the conversation with “Liberty” radio station answering Edelstein answered the question about what impact has the demand for the adoption of the Armenian Genocide to the Armenian-Israeli relations. “In Israel the issue was discussed at the parliamentary level several times. Decisions were made in the Knesset committees. You are right when you say that there is no law on the state level, that accepts the Armenian Genocide, but Armenians and Jews share many historical episodes, and you will not find anyone in Israel who would deny the Armenian genocide, or would say that it is an invention. ”
Referring to his visit, Diaspora and Information Minister of Israel said that it is related not only to the 20th anniversary of Jewish Community in Armenia, but it has a tendency to tighten the Armenia-Israel bilateral relations. On assessing Armenian-Israeli relations as “normal business relations,” the minister, however, added- “I would not say that all the potential is used, as there is lack in business and in other fields other, but I hope and I am sure that such meetings would help to transfer good, normal relations into a deeper relationship and be able to use the whole potential.”
