“Charles Aznavour, clearly knowing that Georgian authorities press Armenians in Javakhq, must have refused to take part in Rabat castle inauguration ceremony especially when the castle symbolizes Georgian-Turkish cooperation.” – said Sergey Shaqaryants in today’s interview with journalists.
According to political scientist’s explanation Charles Aznavour behaved not as an Armenian, but as a world-famous singer and French. “He forgot that Armenian government had appointed him as an honorable ambassador of Armenia to Switzerland. He mustn’t have gone at least because the Georgian government have detained Armenians for senseless accusations. I don’t think he didn’t know.”
Shaqaryanc sees a political context in the background. According to him this is connected to the upcoming elections in Georgia. Sahakashvili wants to show the French authorities that he supports the incumbent regime.
Shaqaryants denied the talks that Charles Aznavour had gone to his birthplace saying that he wasn’t born there. “It is his father who was born in Akhaltsikhe, his mother’s roots are not connected to that place. He has never lived in Akhaltsikhe.
