In some of the Armenian villages and towns, the mayors firmly cling on their chairs. Besides ruling for a long time, they have run their candidacies again. These mayors are as a rule keeping their posts since Robert Kocharyan’s times and are members of the Republican Party.
This time as well, their candidacies are put by the familiar party, ARP.
If the party just executed a small part of its reforms, the long-lived mayors would give their place to younger professionals who have modern views and ideas. But ARP carries out the opposite policy as a result of which there is no generation change among mayors.
Samvel Darbinyan holds the post of mayor of Vanadzor since 1999. On September 9th as well he has put his candidacy with an approval of ARP.
The mayor of Qajaran, Syuniq region, Vardan Gevorgyan has been on this post since 2002 and is going to keep it on September 9th. The same is with the towns Dastakert and Shamlugh.
The Mayor of Masis, Ararat region, Dmitrin Nazaryan has been holding the post since 1996. In difference with others, he belonged to no party at first, now he is PAP member. PAP has run his candidacy again.
The mayors of Berd and Dilijan are also long-lived. Both of them are nominated in these elections.
