The Radio free Europe news agency repots that reporters, for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), have expressed concern over the seizure of bank accounts by Georgian authorities; bank accounts belonging to political parties in the Georgian Dream opposition coalition.
The co-reporters for Georgia — Denmark’s Michael Aastrup Jensen and Latvia’s Boriss Cilevics reported in one of the statements that the move by Georgian authorities undermines the opposition’s participation in the campaign ahead of the October 1 parliamentary elections.
Georgian Dream accused the government of freezing the accounts of all six coalition member parties and seizing all incoming campaign donations on August 18.
The PACE officials reported in their statements that the co-reporters will visit Georgia as part of PACE’s pre-election mission on September 11-12.
