As part of the jubilee events dedicated to Charles Aznavour’s 100th birthday, the first Armenian exhibition of sculptor Mkrtich Mazmanyan was opened in the Two Arcs gallery.
The exhibition presents the master’s busts depicting Aznavour, compositional works, and drawings. Mazmanian Aznavours are not direct reproductions, but emotional images, attitudes, and tributes to the great chansonnier.
The event participants toured the exhibition hall, got acquainted with the author’s works, and attended the unique interactive exhibition combining Aznavour’s music and face sculptures.
“I didn’t think about having such a collection in advance; everything happened automatically,” said Mkrtich Mazmanyan, speaking about the motivations for sculpting Aznavour and the exhibition during the opening, continuing: “In my youth, I listened to him a lot, at first, I was fascinated by him as a great Armenian, later, I began to understand that he is not only a great Armenian, but also a great and cosmic person. Not only does he perform in the best way, but he also writes in the best way, and each of his songs is poetry and drama. And I wanted to translate his music into form.”
Nicola Aznavour, co-founder and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Aznavour Foundation, and his wife, Kristina Aznavour, the executive director of the Aznavour Foundation, participated in the event.
“Charles Aznavour’s life and past have always inspired many artists from the field of music and other art forms. In the works of Mkrtich Mazmanyan, we see his love for sculpture and the transforming power of art. On behalf of the “Aznavour” Foundation, we would like to thank Mr. Mazmanyan for working on works dedicated to Charles Aznavour and exhibiting them on the occasion of the artist’s centenary,” says Nikola Aznavour.
The presentation of Mkrtich Mazmanyan’s picture book occurred at the exhibition’s opening. According to Zara Mazmanyan, the curator of the exhibition and the author of the book idea, this book is a logical continuation of Mkrtich Mazmanyan’s years of work. “The book summarizes the master’s works from his student days to the present.”
The exhibition’s opening ceremony was attended by members of the government, prominent figures of culture, and many guests who appreciated art. The exhibition will be open until May 10.
