RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke about the negotiations on the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty in Croatia.
“Armenia is conscientiously involved in the negotiations with Azerbaijan, and we are more than interested in establishing lasting peace in the region. We are sure that this will benefit Armenia’s population and the region’s states. Nevertheless, we see that our constructiveness is sometimes not reflected in the behavior of our neighbors,” he said.
According to Mirzoyan, Armenia was involved in the negotiations, among others, with the support of the European Union. “Currently, we see that Azerbaijan, unfortunately, refuses to resume talks on the existing platforms. However, we are interested in continuing the discussions. As I mentioned, we value more who facilitates the negotiations and the principles based on which the negotiations should continue. In this context, I want to emphasize territorial integrity, recognition, the indivisibility of borders, and mutual recognition of sovereignty. These are the principles based on which a peace agreement should be reached.
Regarding the participation of Croatia or the EU in general, I express our gratitude to Croatia and the EU for securing the border areas in our region. I have already mentioned the EU monitoring mission. Additionally, I would like to thank Croatia and the EU member states for their support in meeting the urgent needs of refugees who were forced to leave Nagorno Karabakh as a result of military operations in September 2023,” he said.
