The Ukrainian “Naftogaz” company will not renew the contract with “Gazprom” to transit Russian gas to Europe. The head of the company, Alexey Chernyshov, announced this in an interview with the Ukrainian service of “Azatutyun” radio station. According to him, the current agreement is valid until the end of 2024.
Chernyshov noted that Ukraine continues to provide transit transportation to support European partners who need it. According to him, the country is ready to terminate the contract early at any time, but in this case, Europe will lose supplies. However, the European Union has announced that it plans to stop the consumption of Russian gas by 2027 altogether, and Ukraine is interested in supporting the EU in this.
According to Alexei Chernyshov, Ukraine has the third-largest natural gas reserves in Europe and plans to increase production to become a net exporter in the coming years.
