On October 4, the RA Permanent Representative to the UN, Mher Margaryan, met with the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Genocide Prevention and Deputy Secretary General Alice Wairimu Nderitu to present the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and to discuss the response to the situation initiated by the UN actions.
Referring to the statement of the Special Adviser on September 22, in which the latter warned about the crimes that threaten the civilian population as a result of military operations, including the dangers of genocide, the RA Ambassador emphasized that the current reaction of the UN bodies in connection with Azerbaijan’s aggression cannot be considered sufficient, emphasizing the importance of the prevention of genocide in this matter. The permanent representative of RA specifically emphasized that the distorted description of the situation by the mission that visited Nagorno-Karabakh, already depopulated, coordinated by the UN office in Azerbaijan, is used by the Azerbaijani side to cover up the ethnic cleansing and to exploit the role of the UN in it. A call was made to conduct a joint fact-finding visit with UN bodies to document the crimes committed by Azerbaijan against forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh and present accurate information.
The Special Adviser of the GC reaffirmed his readiness to make appropriate efforts and to be involved in the actions implemented by the United Nations.
