On August 5, the 8th All-Armenian Summer Games opening ceremony will take place at the city stadium of Gyumri.
Until then, preparatory works are being carried out, the course of which was monitored by Araik Harutyunyan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 8th Pan-Armenian Summer Games, Ishkhan Zakaryan, Chairman of the World Pan-Armenian Games Committee, Mushegh Muradyan, Governor of Shirak, and other officials.
A working meeting was also held in the staff of the governor of Shirak under the leadership of Araik Harutyunyan, the chairman of the organizing committee for the organization and holding of the Eighth Pan-Armenian Summer Games, during which issues related to the organizational work of the Games were discussed. Araik Harutyunyan was interested in the already implemented and ongoing works, noting that everything should be done to hold the All-Armenian Games properly.
The governor of Shirak assured that effort and energy are not spared to solve every problem. Then the officials followed the asphalt paving works of the street adjacent to the stadium. Construction works of 2380 square meters of two-layer asphalting of the carriageway, 40 square meters of sidewalks, and 244 square meters of sidewalks were carried out.
This year, around 7,000 people will participate in the 8th Pan-Armenian Summer Games, and the number of guests will reach ten thousand. According to Narine Shahbazyan, the head of the sports policy department of the ESCS and the chief referee of the 8th All-Armenian Games, about 170 teams have registered. “The most teams were registered in futsal sport – 48 countries, in basketball and football – 28 each. We have quite a lot of participants, and I think this is a record number.”
This year, for the first time, the 8th Pan-Armenian Summer Games will host our compatriots living in Saudi Arabia. Most applications were submitted from Russia and Georgia. They also applied to sports such as swimming, golf, and chess. This year, there are also children aged 10-15 among the participants. They will mainly participate in chess and swimming competitions.
The draw for the team sports of the Games took place a few days ago at the Gyumri Chess House.
According to Narine Shahbazyan, the referees of the games have high international qualifications.
“The referees were chosen by the sports federations, we also have international referees who served international tournaments: basketball, athletics, volleyball. The experience of eight years has shown that our referees conduct all competitions at a fairly high level,” said Narine Shahbazyan.
The 8th Pan-Armenian Summer Games participants will compete in various game sports under comfortable conditions by international standards.
As in the previous years, this year also, the participants will be greeted with systematic work and accompanied by the volunteers of the Pan-Armenian Games.
The opening ceremony of the 8th All-Armenian Summer Games will take place on August 5 at the city stadium of Gyumri. The event with the slogan “Unity in sport” will start at 21:00.
