The Venice Commission expressed its opinion on the Georgian bill on oligarchs and called on the Georgian parliament not to adopt it because the fight against the concentration of power in the hands of the rich requires a systematic approach.
“The Venice Commission advises not to accept the project. The Georgian authorities should develop additional measures to fight against oligarchic influence,” says the conclusion published by the Venice Commission.
The adoption of the law on oligarchs will fulfill one of the 12 points that the leaders of the European Union pointed out last June to grant Georgia the status of a community candidate.”
