Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev believes that after Yerevan recognizes Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, the process of agreeing on other points of the peace treaty with Armenia will be easier.
“Of course, today we will talk about regional issues. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I would like to thank the Russian side for its efforts in the regulation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We highly appreciate those efforts, and the fact that Russia will participate in the tripartite meeting today shows that Russia attaches great importance to the signing of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Aliyev said during the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Aliyev also expressed confidence that the agreement on the points of the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan will be implemented faster after the leadership of Armenia recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
“I think that after the recent statements of the Armenian leadership regarding the recognition of Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, as well as the recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, specifying specific figures for the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the matter of agreeing on other points of the peace treaty will be much easier. Because that was the main factor on which we could not agree. Once again, Vladimir Vladimirovich, I hope that today we will take another step in the tripartite format, regarding the regulation of relations between the two countries,” Aliyev emphasized.
