Armenia has not denied the deployment of the mission of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on the border with Azerbaijan, Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vagharshak Harutyunyan told TASS.
“You know that in interstate relations there may be some issues that are discussed and solutions are found. As for the CSTO observers, no one has refused the CSTO observers. The document, which was supposed to be signed in Yerevan in the sidelines of the visit of the CSTO Secretary General and the Chief of the Joint Staff to the region, was not signed because the Armenian side wanted to amend the document. This document is in the process of being revised,” he said.
Harutyunyan also denied the statements of some Armenian political scientists and opposition figures that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government is preparing the country’s withdrawal from the CSTO.
“Such approaches or opinions do not correspond to reality in the sense that the relations between states are determined by the agreements that have been signed, and those agreements that were signed back in the 90s are still valid now. You know very well that there have been dozens of meetings and telephone conversations between the leaders of our countries. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that there is no question of leaving the CSTO, therefore it does not correspond to reality. On the contrary, we have deepening relations and in such an unstable period our relations are deepening and will deepen. I want to repeat once again that Armenia is a member of the EAEU, a member of the CSTO, a member of the CIS and a member of all other regional organizations, where Russia is also present,” he added.
