Today the CEC prolonged the electoral mortgage payment deadline for 48 hours because 8 of the potential candidates did not pay the 8 million dram electoral mortgage. The deadline was prolonged up to the 10th of January, 14:00. Mher Hayrapetyan, one of the candidates, paid 1000 drams and asked the commission to participate in the elections with 50.000 dram mortgage. The CEC will consider this request.
P. Sargsyan and R. Simonyan – the two of the candidates started quarrelling with the head of the CEC Tigran Mukuchyan stating that the request to pay 8 million drams is against the international civic and political rights and that everyone who is a citizen of the RA can and has the right to put his/her candidacy. P. Sargysan had a long speech but Tigran Mukuchyan did not let him go on with it. When the candidate announced that the power is seized by the government Mukuchyan made a final decision to make the decisions without Sargsyan’s speech.
Up today 8 of the candidates have paid the electoral mortgage: Serzh Sargsyan, Hrant Bagratyan, Raffi Hovhannisian, Vardan Sedrakyan, Aram Harutyunyan, Paruyr Hayrikyan and Andreas Ghukasyan.
