The opposition-government clashes in Syria took its mark on the Armenian Church of Holy Martyrs in Der Zor which is the commemoration place for the Armenian Genocide victims. As the press sevretary of the Berio Primacy Zhirayr Rayisian states the church has had serious damages but it was not a target for the fighting sides as can be seen from the photos and videos and is not the same as St. George Church in Aleppo, which was attacked and damaged by the Syrian opposition.
Rayisian added that the national primacy does its best to examine the situation but the venue of the church is in one of the hottest battle places in Der Zor where very few Armenians live now. Besides, there is difficulty reaching Der Zor because of the tense inter-city clashes.
Rayisian concluded that the situation in Aleppo today is comparatively calm but the “Nor Gjugh” Armenian residence is not that safe at nights.
