One of Mikhail Saakashvili’s United National Movement Party leaders Giorgi Baramidze told journalists that his team is going to become an ‘active and constructive opposition’
According to Baramidze, the United National Movement will be the kind of opposition they wanted to see while in office.
“Our country is in need of such an opposition. We are going to be very principled when it comes to the country’s interests. At the same time, we will support the government in a number of issues. This is important for democratic principles,” he noted.
Parliamentary elections with the participation of 14 parties and two political blocks took place in Georgia on October 14. The elections were held by a mixed list majority system.
According to the CEC’s complete preliminary data, the Georgian Dream coalition will have 83 deputy mandates, while United National Movement – 67.
The leader of election winning Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili has previously presented the candidates for ministers for approval in new government.
Ivanishvili himself is going to take the post of prime minister.
