Today a number of Armenian politicians held press conferences to discuss yesterday’s clashes between the protestors and the police in front of the Government building.
Member of the Heritage parliamentary faction Armen Martirosyan, who was supporting the rally participants, announced that they demand an investigation and the dismissal of those policemen who attacked the protestors. Another member of the Heritage faction Larisa Alaverdyan noted that the authorities must punish the policemen otherwise they will be regarded as participants of the illegal actions.
According to the head of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun faction Vahan Hovhannisyan the blamed police for abuse. Hovhannisyan also noted that their party would be waiting for the results of the investigation and expected the punishment of the policemen who violated the law.
Touching upon the issue another member of the ARF Lilit Galstyan said that the police don’t fulfil their responsibilites but the desire of the current government. ‘What happened yesterday is humiliating for citizens and testifies the bad quality of the government’ said Galstyan.
Yesterday the demonstration held in front of Armenia’s Government building turned into a clash between the police and the protestors with the parliament members supporting their demand. The protesters were fighting against the decision of Yerevan Mayor to ban street trade. They have held demonstrations for a couple of weeks but got no answer. During all their fight the protestors have been supported by the members of the Heritage parliamentary faction Zaruhi Postanjyan, Anahit Bakhshyan and Armen Martirosyan. During the clash the police used force even against the PMs ignoring their immunity. Anahit Bakhshyan and Armen Martirosyan were slightly injured.
