The Civilitas Foundation today organized the first discussion in its new series called One Hundred Questions and Answers. Each month the foundation will invite a public personality from all walks of life – political parties, civil society, officials, etc. – to answer questions from the audience. The aim is to give the citizens a possibility to pose direct questions to personalities who are responsible for different areas of life of the society. The discussions will be moderated by Aram Abrahamyan, Editor-in-chief of Aravot daily.
The first guest of the forum is Vartan Oskanyan, Founder of Civilitas and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. During the discussion Oskanyan answered questions on various problems of political situation in Armenia as well as commented on the foreign and internal policy of the authorities.
Commenting on the recently signed memorandum of the ruling parties Oskanyan said that the coalition parties made haste signing this agreement. “Besides, I believe in the idea of checks and balances. I think that a political system can’t be effective if it lacks powers which counterbalance each other. I hoped that Prosperous Armenia Party could create that counter balance and in that case the chances to hold transparent elections would be greater’ explained Oskanyan.
According to him all the current problems in Armenia stem from the political monopoly that now exists in the country.
