We should recall that yesterday the European Parliament adopted a resolution on Safarov’s extradition. The resolution naturally condemns Azerbaijani step, stressing that it will worsen the relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and will make it difficult to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Eghiazar Ayntaptsi in his article published in “Firnst News and Analyses” writes that overall we can’t say that the resolution is good or bad for Armenia, it is somewhere in the middle. “We admit that the European Parliament condemned the case, but they didn’t punish Azerbaijan the way they should have. The international organizations have always tried to put a sign of equality between Azerbaijan and Armenia. But how can the Azeris be compared with Armenians? All the problems come from this.
Only Armenian Foreign Affairs and diplomats can do something to make changes here, since the European Parliament also didn’t give what we accepted.
From this point of view the resolution was weak. Europe must be responsible for the issue, since it is also about its reputation.
If in the past the European organizations weren’t involved in South Caucasus issues, or didn’t want to, this case gives them the best chance to get involved, and to figure out which country is honest and friendly, and which one just the opposite.
