Ashot Manucharyan member of Armenian national Movement gave an interview to 168.am covering various aspects of Armenia’s local self-government elections. Manucharyan noted that political spector in the country is idle since there has been no instruction from outside forces.
Commenting on ANC member Peter Makeyan’s comparison of today’s political situation with the situation in 1996, when two weeks before the presidential election there was not such politically mature opposition, but they managed to come together and raise a protest Ashot Manucharyan noted that “ We have two very important facts: first- the situation, in which is Armenia and a deepening crisis, in which is the world. We are involved in global processes, which include us in an ever-increasing number of challenges. Armenia just needs to have a strong position in order to face these challenges. The second factor is that everyone is interested in the scalp, to find more money. If what I mentioned happens, mobilization will be done, and we will quickly come to the state, which is necessary to confront these challenges.”
Touching on the issue of Armen Badalyan’s statement (on the so-called “united opposition candidate”) that the secret of the victory of the opposition is not the candidate, as well ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan’s statement that “a candidate is imaginary and artificial term”. Ahot Manusharyan responded:” “Putting the issue of that candidate in the basis of the processes is the problem of the mentioned current elect. As we know Armenia undertook many wars and managed to save its land. At that time there was not elections or candidates. In other words, it is not the candidate, who brings that wholeness.”
