Vartan Oskanian, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, currently PAP MP, has written the following announcement on his Facebook page, concerning the issue of Ramil Safarov’s extradition.
“Concerning Hungary’s move of releasing the murderer,I think it is both morally and legally disgusting. In moral sense, the Hungarian government was simply obliged to discuss the issue with Armenian side, before making that mistake!. I’m saying it because our nations had been very close to each other and there had been Armenian – Hungarian old friendship, but everything is now destroyed.
In legal sense, Hungary has totally violated the European Convention on Extradition, since it knew that after Safarov’s release, he wouldn’t be punished in Azerbaijan, moreover he was honored there. We can condemn Hungary over and over, but let us give question to our nation, to Armenia, what did Armenian government do in order to avoid this occasion? Practically nothing… I will explain my statement. I’m saying nothing, because our Foreign Ministry knew the possible prospect of the events, that Azerbaijan will have another “hero”. I blame our country for this situation. If the protests were carried out earlier, before the August 31 occasion, then Safarov wouldn’t have been released. All I want to say is that we, with our own hands, created this situation, and made Azeries happy. ”
