The Armenian weekly reported that on September 10, Zack Minasyan, the administrative assistant to Boston Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine, will be the speaker at the joint dinner meeting of the St. James Armenian Church Men’s Club and the Holy Trinity Armenian Church Men’s Club. The topic of the discussion will be “A Baseball Life.”
Minasyan has spent 28 years in professional baseball. He was hired as the administrative assistant to the manager at the beginning of the 2012 season by the Boston Red Sox organization. He was previously appointed equipment and home clubhouse manager for the Texas.
Rangers in 1994, after six years as visiting clubhouse manager in Texas, ultimately spending 22 years in the organization. As a teenager, Minasyan mentored under Hall of Fame Manager Tommy LaSorda, and worked in the Dodgers organization in the late 1960’s as a minor league clubhouse attendant and equipment manager in Ogden, Utah.
The paper reports that Minasyan was selected as Equipment Manager of the Year in 2008. He’s worked with Caps for Kids charitable organization, which was dedicated to giving caps signed by athletes, entertainers, and other notable celebrities to children who are pediatric cancer patients, and has worked with other sports-related charitable organizations over the years.
Minasyan and his wife Barbara have four sons and two granddaughters—Lola, almost 3 years old, and Minka 1year old. Their son Rudy is an entrepreneur in Chicago; son Perry is director of pro scouting for the Toronto Blue Jays; Calvin is Minor League equipment coordinator for the Washington Nationals; and Zack is director of pro scouting for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The social hour starts with mezza at 6:15 p.m., followed by a complete loshkebab and kheyma dinner at 7, for $12 per person. The dinner meeting will be held at the St. James Armenian Church Charles Mosesian Cultural and Youth Center-Keljik Hall, 465 Mount Auburn St. in Watertown. Ladies, as always, are welcome.
