Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has called on the EU to hold a summit with Russia, following the example of the upcoming talks between Russia and the United States. He said EU leaders should initiate dialogue with Moscow because “it is the only sensible step in the current situation.”
Orbán stressed that he did not defend the EU statement on behalf of Hungary, as it tried to create conditions for negotiations to which European leaders themselves were not invited.
“The statement tries to create conditions for negotiations to which EU leaders were not invited. Unfortunately, the EU has been sidelined. The only thing that could be worse than that is giving orders from the bench,” the Hungarian prime minister wrote.
He added that Europe should not remain idle and called for “giving peace a chance.”
