History shows that our people have very bitter experience in making choices. This statement was made by the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies Ruben Safrastyan, who notes that in the issue of joining European and Eurasian Unions, Armenia should not be given to the temptation of choice.
“We need to build our policy on the basis of our identity. And our identity is that we are also Middle Eastern nation, and we should not be trapped only in the politics of the South Caucasus,” he said at today’s conference.
According to him, Armenia should try to be active in the Middle East. He notes that if we were able to increase the role and importance of the country in the international arena, the choice between the Eurasian and the European Unions would have been easier for Armenia.
“It is obvious that our national interest impose to be in a military and political alliance with Russia. And our security is provided only in case there is a military connection with Russia,” he said.
