Russian expert on economics Andrey Suzdalcev told the First Armenian News and Analyses that Armenia cannot be a part of the Customs Union (CU) because a country wanting to be a member of the CU has to have an immediate border with CU. Armenia does not have any. Besides there are a lot of problems with Armenia integrating into the CU.
Suzdalcev reported neither Georgia, nor Azerbaijan is to be a part of the CU hence Armenia’s membership cannot be taken into consideration.
Georgian-Abkhazian railway opening could complement to the situation however Suzdalcev does not think the railway will be opened soon because of the Georgian-Russian current relations.
As Tigran Sargsyan previously had mentioned the membership of Armenia to the CU makes no sense because the country does not have a border with any of the member states.
