“Demoskop” demographic weekly newspaper reports slon.ru has elaborated a table dealing with the changes in the Russia’s national structure. As the paper reports, the number of the Armenians and the Chechens has grown correspondingly with 650 and 532 thousands. During the time under the observation the number of the Russians and the Ukrainians has reduced the most reaching correspondingly 8.8 million and 2.4 million. According to the table the Chechens have settled on the 6th place from their previous 8, and the Armenians are in the 7th place.
As the paper concludes, the change of the demographics in Russia is also predetermined by the national self- identification processes, for if in Soviet Russia people would call themselves Russians, now they choose “other” option when asked about their nationality.
