Russia presented Karen Shahnazarov’s “White Tiger” movie to Oscar nomination. The choice was made by Russian “Oscar commission” on September 20.
According to the president of the commission Vladimir Menshov, who had won Oscar for the movie” Moscow doesn’t believe in tears”, the meeting was quite tense as each member was defending its candidate.
Thus, it is the third year that Russia nominates a film about Great Patriotic War for Oscar. The commission members were former Oscar winners or candidates, producers and directors, like Nikita Mikhalkov, Vladimir Naumov, Andrey Konchalovsky, Karen Shahnazarov and others.
Movie expert Kyril Razlogov explained in the interview with Russian mass media that this a worthy movie. Alexander Sokurov’s “Faust” would be too difficult for American movie academics.
